About the event
Cynthia Elder, author of the historical fiction novel, Tales of the Sea: The Journey Begins, will join us on Zoom on Thursday, January 22, for a presentation on the years-long research effort which culminated in this two-book series. The novel reveals the inner lives of three generations from a Massachusetts seafaring family in the 1800s during a time of global change and political upheaval. The two central characters in the book are her husband's great-great-grandparents.
Cynthia will take us behind the scenes and share what's involved in writing a novel based on original records: pouring over museum and library archives, visiting historic sites, and transcribing hundreds of pages of letters, ship's logs, and personal journals.
